Exam Attendance
Impersonation at exams is one of the hardest problems to catch on paper. With Attenova, each student has an Exam Pass in the app — their matric number with a QR code — that they show at the exam hall.
The invigilator scans the QR code or enters the matric number, Attenova confirms the student is enrolled and meets the university’s minimum attendance, and a live face check on the invigilator’s phone confirms the person in front of them is really that student.
Included Features
- Exam Pass with QR code for every student
- Scan the QR or type the matric number
- Mandatory live face match
- Attendance eligibility checked at the door
- University-set minimum attendance
- Downloadable exam roster
The Challenge
In an exam hall there’s no classroom code to share and GPS can’t tell two students apart, so a matric number alone is easy to borrow. The challenge was to confirm identity at the door quickly, without slowing down a queue of hundreds of students.
How Attenova solves this
Attenova checks enrolment and attendance eligibility first, then runs a live face match against the student’s enrolled face — mandatory for exams. Each student can only be marked once per exam, and the exam roster can be downloaded afterwards.

No. A live face match on the invigilator’s phone is required for every exam check-in.
