In many Nigerian universities, the hostel day ends the same way it has for decades: a curfew, a roll call, and a sheet of paper that someone signs on behalf of a roommate who “just stepped out”. Morning and night devotion registers work the same way. It takes time every night, and the records are only as honest as the people filling them in.
Attenova moves all of this onto the phones students and hostel managers already carry.
Setting up a hostel
A hostel manager adds the hostel and stands inside it to record its location — every bed-check is measured from that point. Rooms don’t have to be created one by one: enter how many rooms the building has and how many students each holds, and Attenova creates them all at once. Any single room can be adjusted later.
Students then choose their own hostel and room in the app, based on their gender and the spaces left, so managers don’t have to allocate everyone by hand.
Setting the curfew
Each hostel has a nightly bed-check window — for example, 9:00 PM to 11:00 PM. A head hostel manager can set one curfew for every hostel in the school at once, and new hostels start with it automatically. A single hostel can still have its own times if it needs them.
The nightly check
Every night a fresh bed-check opens with its own access code. Students mark themselves present from inside the hostel during the window, with the same GPS location check and face verification used for lectures. A student who is off campus can’t mark, and nobody can mark for a roommate.
Devotion attendance
Hostels that hold morning or night devotion can turn either on with its own time window. Students get a notification when it starts and mark it the same way. Managers see today’s devotion code right on their dashboard.
Leave and excuses
Students who are travelling can request leave in the app. Once it’s approved, they’re marked excused rather than absent, stop receiving reminders while they’re away, and the hostel managers are told.
What managers see

Instead of a stack of paper, managers get a live list for each night — present, excused, absent — plus full history for every student. A head manager oversees every hostel in the school; other managers see the hostels they’re assigned to. Any list can be downloaded as an Excel sheet or PDF, and if a student misses three bed-checks in a row without an excuse, the managers are alerted automatically.
